My name is Hank Regan and you’re very welcome to my site...
I can only assume that you are here because you are looking for new plays for performance or you enjoy reading plays for enjoyment. Whatever the reason I hope you will stay a while and browse around.
I came to writing at what some people would consider a later age than most, but I have been involved in music and performance all of my adult life. In my younger days I was a professional singer in a popular showband. I have always been interested in amateur dramatics and have used my acting talents for small parts in TV commercials, soaps and a few feature films. Ultimately my interest is in people and stories and when I found my voice to write I used that very old piece of advice about ‘writing what you know’. Some of my most successful work has been based on real events and real people, though heavily disguised to protect the guilty from ridicule.
For me, writing started as a hobby; a way to challenge myself and create a new avenue of expression. Suddenly the pieces started to appear on stages in Ireland and, I must admit, to hear a packed room laughing out loud at the lines you have written is an unbelievable feeling and an enormous blessing.
Since I started writing some amazing things have happened. I have had my work produced Off Broadway as well as in Ireland and Canada. From that exposure I was contacted by a well known film production company to “throw my eye over” a new script that has an Irish story, and give them some pointers with regard to syntax and language. I couldn’t believe they were asking my opinion. When I found myself with a very famous face from British television sitting at my kitchen table at my home in Ring, Co. Waterford I had to pinch myself to make sure this wasn’t some surreal dream. That film is still in pre production, but when it hits the screens I will let you know.
For now I invite you to look around and please leave a message.
Hank
